The New Year is here! It is hard to believe that 2019 is underway. Many people are working on New Year’s Resolutions and maybe that includes starting a new business?
If it does, then you are in the right place. There are three things that separates those who go on to build successful businesses from those who don’t. Those three things might surprise you! It really breaks down to a few very simple concepts.
1. Perseverance
The willingness to keep trying, even when the going gets tough or roadblocks appear. When it is easier to give up, but you keep on going. Looking at a disappointment or failure and seeing an opportunity to learn and grow, correcting course and trying again. Committing to the process and sticking with it until the desired goal is achieved. If decide to persevere you are a lot likely to be successful. Those who give up as soon as they encounter their first roadblock or disappointment will have a much harder time achieving their goals.
2. Mindset
Those who succeed believe that they can! It is very easy to let doubt and fear keep you from achieving your goals. Don’t let this happen to you. It is very important to surround yourself with others who support you. Find an online community or local business owners group where you can find support and encouragement. Having a tribe of like-minded people supporting you is indispensable. Listen to podcasts, read blogs by those who inspire you, and keep focusing on your wins. Make sure you set goals that are definable and realistic so you don’t end up “stuck” feeling lost and overwhelmed. Focus on the most important steps, the small ones you need to take in order to reach milestones that contribute to your overarching goal. Celebrate often, no success is too small!
3. Hustle
Starting a business is not easy. It takes time, planning, and hard work. You need to be willing to sacrifice today for a better tomorrow. It might mean giving up some of your fun money to fund your start-up. It also means choosing to invest your time wisely. Many have to work another job while they build their business. This might mean coming home after a hard work day and choosing to work on your new venture rather than watching TV. Plan out when you will work on your new business and make sure to define concrete tasks you need to complete. If you simply decide to work on your business in your “free time” without a defined plan it is unlikely you will make the progress you desire. Work hard today for a more fulfilling tomorrow. This is the hardest part of starting online. There is a lot of upfront work without any monetary reward. You need to hustle despite this in order to get to the point where you can capture a return on all your efforts.
Starting a new business can be overwhelming. Whether you have an online business or are bringing your brick and mortar business online there is a lot to learn before the dream becomes a reality.
